Just one of the beautiful spots along the hike to Soda Creek Falls |
It was by pure accident that we happened on to Cascadia State
Park. We we actually planning on driving through the McKenzie River area
but due to an unprecedented fire season much of the area we had planned on
traveling through was on fire!
Our detour through Cascadia turned out to be one of the highlights
of our time in Oregon. Cascadia State Park is by all accounts small and a
bit remote as camping spots go. However if you take the time to explore
this hidden gem you won't be disappointed.
Having a little fun with our "travel partners"! |
The campsites themselves are pretty basic, no hook-ups but clean
restrooms with hot showers were available. The camp hosts were delightful
and made our stay very enjoyable. You will wake to a misty morning with
the sounds of blue jays and squirrels all around you. You are surrounded by
beautiful trees and blackberry bushes everywhere. In the near distance
you can hear a creek running that definitely invites you to come and
explore.
You will find a trail head that takes you on a fairly easy hike to
Soda Creek Falls with the final stretch being an uphill haul for sure.
Approximately 3/4 of mile and you arrive and a truly picturesque scene with a
gorgeous waterfall cascading down a cliff side into a stunning pool at the
bottom.
When we arrived in early fall, it was already the slow season and
we were one of 3 campers there other than the camp hosts. It was a truly serene and stunning stop on
our journey through Oregon. The campground closes completely on September 30
for the season but the day use hikes are accessible year around. This tranquil park should definitely be on
your to do list in Oregon and will be on our to do again list for sure.
Happy Trails Travelers,
