"Aggie" The Aloha Travel Trailer
When we first made the decision that we were going to sell
everything and start RVing full time we had a ton of questions about the how
to’s and what for’s. We researched and
researched some more until we came to the decision to start out with something
vintage to begin our journey. Some of
the reasoning was budget and simplicity.
In our minds older meant less gadgets and do dads ie: less to break,
less to fix and over all less money spent.
That brings us to “Aloha Aggie”, a 17 ft 1968 Aloha travel
trailer. She came into our life purely by chance and it was almost kismet. We
knew at once when we saw her it was love at first sight. So as love stories go
this one has been passionate, and full of adventure.
Like most travelers over time Aggie was a little road weary
and in need of a little freshening. We
were and are more than happy be her new wards and have taken on that task
lovingly.
We had thought that we would probably only need to give her
a fresh paint job and maybe just a little tuning before we hit the road,
however like most great ladies she had a few secrets yet to be revealed.
Being cut of non-traditional cloth I didn’t follow a
traditional choice for her cosmetic touch up.
While many might argue that being a vintage beauty as she is would call
for a vintage theme to brighten her walls, I chose a more modern style that
mirrored our home. Aggie was about to
become “the mother ship”, our safe harbor, Jim Kirks Enterprise, our home. I wanted her to feel like home so I went
against the grain and brought her into this century, at least on the
inside. The outside however, called for
following her lovely lines and accentuating her beauty as a vintage trailer.
One of her “secrets” she had yet to reveal to us in the
beginning of our restoration was that her original water tank that we had
deemed usable was in fact not. While
flushing and sanitizing out the tank we, well blew a hole right in the side of
the tank. Two positives came from this
event:
1. We were still
docked at home which made finding the right products and getting our hands on
them much easier.
2. We discovered how
completely disgusting the inside of the old tank was, which we would not have
discovered otherwise.
All in all Aggie has been one of the best additions to our lives yet. She is faithful, resilient and above all classy. We hope you will enjoy following along with us as we head to frontiers undiscovered with Aggie and the Pup-tarts.
